Ice Breaker: Yoga for the Workplace

Deb Pehrson, Yoga Instructor, Yoga with Deb

Ensminger Pavilion

This session will help you find a way to bring peacefulness into your busy day. Yoga means union. When practicing any part of yoga we are striving to unify the body and the mind in a more interactive way than we are generally accustom to in our "busy, busy, busy" Western culture. We will focus on yogic breathing and stretching techniques that you can practice at your desk. During the practice of these stretches I will talk about body awareness and listening to cues that our bodies give us throughout the day.

Patrick Cruver, Safety and Health Specialist,
WSU Environmental Health and Safety

Confined space hazards on farms are numerous. Every year in the United States there are reports of fatalities on farms due to suffocaton and poisoning from asphyziating and toxic gases formed by fermentation of organic material within manure pits and grain bins. Working in grain bins without proper respiratory protection to filter dusts and molds increases the farmer's chances of developing repsiratory diseases. Entering grain bins without proper restraint systems has caused many deaths due to suffocation and crushing from flowing grain. Mr. Cruver will discuss some of these hazards and control methods for avoiding them in his 30 minute Power Point presentation.
